Choosing a tank
MTL (Mouth-to-Lung) gives a tighter, cigarette-like draw at lower power. Sub Ohm is airier, runs higher wattage, and makes bigger clouds. Pick MTL for discreet vapour/higher nic; pick Sub Ohm for flavour/vapour with lower nic.
RDL (Restricted Direct Lung) sits between MTL and Sub Ohm — slightly open draw at moderate power. Many modern tanks with adjustable airflow and mid-ohm coils (≈0.4–0.8Ω) can do RDL.
MTL tanks with higher-ohm coils (≥1.0Ω) at low power work best for nic salts.
E-liquids, Resistance & Wattage
MTL: 50/50 or 60/40 (including nic salts). Sub Ohm: high-VG (typically 70/30). Wrong ratios can cause leaks (too thin) or dry hits (too thick).
Higher resistance (≈1.0–1.8Ω) for MTL/low power. Lower resistance (≈0.15–0.6Ω) for Sub Ohm/high power. Always follow the coil’s printed wattage range.
Start at the low end of the coil’s rated range and step up until flavour/warmth feel right without dryness or spitting.
Not recommended. Salts are usually higher strength for low-power MTL. Sub Ohm is best with low-nic freebase (e.g., 0–6 mg) and high-VG.
Mesh heats evenly with fast ramp-up and strong flavour. Traditional round/Clapton wire offers a different warmth/feel. Always stay within the stated wattage.
Setup, Lifespan & Compatibility
Add a few drops of e-liquid to the visible cotton, assemble, fill the tank and wait 5–10 minutes. Take a few gentle primer puffs without firing, then start at low wattage.
Typically every 1–2 weeks, depending on wattage, e-liquid sweetness and usage. Replace if flavour fades, vapour drops, or you taste burning.
Use the correct PG/VG ratio, stay within the rated wattage, keep the tank topped up, avoid heavy chain-vaping at high power, and minimise very sweet liquids.
Usually no. Coils are tank-specific. Some families share compatibility within a brand, but always check the product page for supported coils.
Troubleshooting
Common causes: thin e-liquid for the coil, worn/mis-seated O-rings, over-filling, a damaged or loose coil, or vaping with airflow fully closed. Re-seat parts and ensure the coil is snug (not overtight).
Power too high, coil not fully primed, low liquid, or liquid too thick for the coil. Lower wattage, refill, and replace the coil if cotton is scorched.
Excess liquid in the coil, over-priming, or very low wattage. Clear the chimney carefully, raise wattage slightly, and avoid over-priming.
Check liquid ratio, coil seating, O-rings, wattage within range, airflow position, and that the coil is primed. If issues persist, fit a new coil and reassemble carefully.
Usage & Care
It can help on some tanks to reduce pressure changes. Fill slowly, don’t over-fill, and wipe excess liquid from the chimney.
Not recommended. Exceeding the printed range risks burnt cotton and short coil life. If you want warmer vapour, choose a coil rated for higher wattage.
Yes, but you’ll taste the previous flavour for a tank or two. For very different profiles (e.g., menthol → dessert), a fresh coil gives the cleanest result.
